Albany Looks To Even Mark Against UMBC

Jan 26, 2011 7:35 PM

Albany is looking to even their record in the America East Conference with a win over UMBC on Wednesday.

They have a conference record of 3-4 and an overall mark of 10-12, while University of Maryland-Baltimore County has a conference mark of 2-5 and an overall mark of 3-17 this season.

“It’s very important, for us, in my opinion, that we finish the first half of league play at 4-4 and try to go on a roll here down the back stretch,” said Albany coach Will Brown.

Binghamton Records Lowest-Ever Point Total

Jan 21, 2011 5:01 PM

Albany defeated Binghamton 76-37 on Thursday night, making history in the process.

The Bearcats recorded their lowest point total in a game since the program moved to Division I in 2001. Also, the 39-point margin of victory is the largest for Albany since it moved to Division I (12 seasons ago).

"When the basket opens up a big as this room, there's not a lot you can do," BU interim coach Mark Macon said. "If you can't buckle down defensively and get some stops, there's not a lot you can do because guys can just throw the ball up there and it's going to go in."

Ambrose Puts Tough Games Behind Him

Jan 12, 2011 2:46 PM

Tim Ambrose, a senior guard for Albany, has struggled in the team's last two games.

He shot 4-for-17 against Vermont and 2-for-10 against Hartford.

"I think I will have a good game every game I play," Ambrose said Tuesday.

Ambrose was Albany's most consistent player through the first 16 games of the season.

"I just have to forget about those games," Ambrose said. "There is nothing I can do about it but move on to the next one."

Hartford Credits Defense For Albany Win

Jan 10, 2011 2:57 PM

Hartford held Albany to 21 points in each half on 16-for-46 shooting during their 62-42 win.

"The reason we won the game was our defensive side of the ball," first year coach John Gallagher said. "Our guys were really focused on getting back early in transition. The second key, I thought we notified and identified their offensive players early."

Hartford began the season with a 3-10 record, but six of those losses were by five or fewer points.

"Realistically, what I knew all along was there's evidence there that you're good," Gallagher said. "There's evidence. It's not like we're just making this up. We came in and talked about how good we're going to be."

Said senior guard Joe Zeglinski: "Coach preached the whole time that [wins are] going to come and during conference play it's going to pay off, and it is right now. We just want to keep pushing forward."

Albany Uses Vermont As Measuring Stick

Jan 7, 2011 11:30 AM

Albany coach Will Brown wanted to use Thursday night's game at Vermont as a measuring stick for his team.

He learned that the Great Danes have some work to catch up with Catamounts in the America East standings following a 60-48 loss.

Vermont unleashed a 14-2 run to open the second half against Albany's zone defense.

“They are big and physical and we thought we could run on them,” Brown said. “The problem is you can’t run if you don’t rebound. They did a good job on the offensive glass.

“We’d guard for 30 seconds then we’d give up an offensive rebound,” he added. “Then we’d guard for 30 seconds and then commit a dumb foul.”
